Clownfish are able to change their gender! In a group of clownfish, there is a strict hierarchy with a dominant female at the top. When she dies, the largest male will often undergo a transformation, changing from male to female. This ensures the survival of the group, as the next largest male will take on the role of breeding with the newly transformed female. It’s nature’s way of ensuring the continuity of the clownfish community.
