The Wanaka Tree, also known as the “Lone Tree of Lake Wanaka,” is a famous willow tree situated in Lake Wanaka. Despite its popularity as a photography subject and iconic status in the region, the Wanaka Tree wasn’t always embraced. Initially, it was considered a nuisance by some locals because willow trees are not native to New Zealand, and this particular tree started growing from a fence post. Over time, however, it has become a beloved symbol and a frequently photographed landmark, drawing visitors from around the world.
